The major activity of the organisation is to provide support services to women victims of domestic and intimate partner violence and their children. Support services are available free of charge through the SOS Helpline (24/7 emergency help line) operation, for reporting domestic violence incidents and receiving support; the Shelter for victims of abuse, created to offer hospitality and protection to women and their children having suffered any kind of violence; and the Counselling Centre “The Women House” that provides assistance to women victims of violence and their children through psychosocial and legal counselling and support. The Centre has is certified for its counselling services under the ISO 9001:2015 protocol.
UWAH also engages with raising awareness and advocating for human rights through actions of dissemination, awareness raising and education for its beneficiaries but also for the general public. Events and training activities are organised for parents, professionals and students. As well as this, mentoring for women to re-enter the labour market and services for homeless persons and persons that face poverty problems are also provisioned through activities of the organisation.
UWAH is working in close collaboration with like-minded organisations in Greece and Europe and participates in national and international networks for the protection and promotion of human rights; such as EUROCHILD, the WAVE Network, and WWP European Network. Moreover, UWAH is cooperating closely with local institutions (Authorities, Police, and Universities), the formal migrant communities, as well as governmental institutions. It is a member of the Regional Council for Gender Equality in the Region of Crete, and a dialogue partner of the General Secretariat for Family Policy & Gender Equality.
Since 2008, UWAH is implementing co-funded national and transnational projects, on gender equality, gender-based violence, and protection of vulnerable groups.

The Union of Women Members’ Associations of Heraklion Prefecture was established in 2000 as a Non-Governmental Organization, with Registration Number 13117 SYP. It is a Legal Person Governed by Private Law. According to the decision of the Ministry for Health and Social Solidarity, which was published in 1453/v.Β/21-10-05 FEK, it is a certified provider of Social Care Services.
